Schools that meet 100% Demonstrated Need

"Meeting demonstrated need" refers to the practice by colleges and universities of providing financial aid packages that fully cover the financial gap between a student’s family contribution and the total cost of attendance. This concept is based on a family's financial situation, assessed through information provided in the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) or the College Scholarship Service (CSS) Profile.
  1. Demonstrated Need: This is calculated by subtracting the Expected Family Contribution (EFC)—an amount that the family is expected to contribute toward the student's education—from the total cost of attendance (tuition, fees, room, board, etc.). For example, if a college's total cost is $30,000 and a student's EFC is $10,000, the demonstrated need would be $20,000.
  2. Meeting Demonstrated Need: When a college or university states that it meets demonstrated need, it means that they will offer financial aid (through scholarships, grants, loans, and work-study opportunities) that will cover that $20,000 in this example. This practice can help make college more accessible for students from lower and middle-income families.

What is a fly-in program?

It is a program hosted by a college or university that provides prospective high school students an opportunity to visit the campus. These programs are usually free, and serve as a great opportunity for visiting students to learn more about the school's academic programs and experience campus life.
